Biglemoi Drop Impressive Permanent Vacation EP

New Orleans-based indie-rock outfit Biglemoi dropped a new EP, entitled Permanent Vacation, just moments ago, on Bubble Bath Records.

The band’s name – Biglemoi – was borrowed from the novel Froth on the Daydream (L’Ecume des Jours) by Boris Vian. The novel has inspired three films and an opera. Biglemoi is a fanciful dance which, if performed properly, generates an encompassing energy inducing everyone to enter the dance.

Made up of Matt Bigelow (bass), Jeremy Marx (guitar), Violeta del Rio (keyboards, synth, vocals),  Jonathan Arceneaux (drums), and George Elizondo (vocals, guitar), Biglemoi formed in 2015 and embraces a vast array of geographical and musical influences. Bigelow, Arceneaux, and Marx are from New Orleans; del Rio hails from Spain; and Elizondo is from Nicaragua.

The band released their self-titled EP in 2015, and has shared the stage with Diet Cig, Boogarins, Bodega, Chappo, The Chamanas & The Pack A.D., along with many others.

Permanent Vacation embraces five-tracks, starting off with “Joyride” opening on a shimmering guitar flowing into a driving rhythm supporting a gleaming propelling melody rife with alt-rock and new wave textures, as well as tints of tasty psychedelic coloration. “Sola” features oozing synths and an elegant piano, followed by a gentle rippling guitar. Del Rio’s lush voice infuses the tune with delicious Latin tones and creamy sonority. As the song develops it assumes intensity, depth, and sonic pressure. It’s a beautiful song.

The title track’s intro rides a syncopated drum shuffle and glittering guitar accents. When the piano enters, the harmonics take on layered washes of color with what amount to almost a prog-rock flow. “Decipher” opens on streaming flavors seguing to a tightly thrumming indie-rock melody merging punk-lite and dream-pop dynamics. This track is one of the EP’s highlights.

The final track, “Other Side,” opens on a droning synth topped by sparkling guitars. The mood of the tune, drifting and trembling, travels on velvety twinkling surfaces luminous with lingering hues. Del Rio’s wistful tones imbue the tune with ethereal timbres.

Permanent Vacation is beautifully wrought, full of both indie-rock and dream-pop savors, along with potent rhythms and enchanting vocals.
