C. J. Bruton is an American-Australian professional basketball coach and former player who played college basketball for Indian Hills Community College from 1995 to 1997 and was picked by the Vancouver Grizzlies in the 1997 NBA draft. He played the majority of his career in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) and won six league championships as well as was a five-time All-NBL Team selection. Throughout the course of his career, he played for many NBL teams such as Perth Wildcats, Brisbane Bullets, Wollongong Hawks, Canberra Cannons, Sydney Kings, and New Zealand Breakers. Additionally, C. J. Bruton has also served as the head coach of the Brisbane Spartans in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) as well as the Adelaide 36ers.

  • He was 3 years old when his family shifted from Kansas to Australia so that his father was able to play professional basketball.
  • C. J. Bruton debuted for the Perth Wildcats of the Australian National Basketball League in 1994. He became ineligible to play in the NCAA.
  • While in college, he served as the starting point guard for the Warriors in both his freshman and sophomore seasons.
  • He led the Indian Hills Community College to the school’s first championship in 1997 and was named an NJCAA All-American as well as the MVP of the 1997 national tournament.
  • As a freshman, C. J. Bruton averaged 13.2 points per game and 12.1 as a sophomore. Also, he led the team with 5.3 assists per game as a sophomore.
