Jets Release Pro Bowl Returner Braxton Berrios Celeb Secrets

The New York Jets have made a surprising decision as the team is set to release returner/wideout, Braxton Berrios. This past season, Berrios was named a Pro Bowl alternate at the returner position.

Berrios is coming off of a season filled with small opportunities in the receiving department as his targets were a very low 32 in 17 games played this season. To put this in perspective, Berrios had a career-high 65 targets in the season before.

Berrios’ primary role for the Jets came in the kick/punt return department. Berrios finished the 2022-23 season with 240 punt return yards on 21 attempts while finishing with 600 yards on 21 kickoff return opportunities.

As for the Jets, this move frees up around $5 million of their cap space, which can be critical in their pursuit of Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers and the Jets met a few days ago as New York’s regime flew out to California to meet with the future Hall of Fame signal-caller, as reported here on Celeb Secrets.

In the wake of an extensive in-person meeting between Aaron Rodgers & New York Jets brass, including owner Woody Johnson, there's optimism in the Jets’ organization that they are on the brink of landing the future Hall of Fame QB, sources close to the situation tell ESPN.

Berrios is likely to be a hot commodity in free agency, as high-level returners are rare in today’s NFL. The former Miami Hurricane standout was a member of the New England Patriots before joining the Jets, so it would be pretty funny if he were to land with one of the other teams in the AFC East, the Dolphins, or the Bills.

All in all, the Jets will now be tasked with finding an elite returner while their pursuit for a new QB1 remains active, and Berrios will look to improve and stand out even more with his next team.
